So, I want to join Horizons, but...
Good question, sailor. Not all Trekkies are the same. In fact, even the name "Trekkie" can be used to tell if someone is old school, or grew up watching Enterprise and thinks it's the best show ever. Those of us who grew up on TNG (and, God forbid, some of us on TOS) know the right term is Trekkie, not Trekker.
It's a safe bet that if you think The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country were the best Trek movies ever made, you're a good match. If you think that Kirk deserved a better death than what B&B gave him in Generations, you're a good match. If you get tears, either physically or figuratively, every time you watch Spock die, you're probably a good match. And if you enjoy hearing old Klingon proverbs and random Shakespeare thrown into dialoge, instead of flashy, trashy special effects, you're definitely a good fit.
If none of the above applies to you, well... not everyone is perfect!
Horizons is a closely knit community of like-minded individuals, brought together by a man named Gene Roddenberry. The creator of Star Trek endowed in us the longing for exploration, and the drive to seek out the better nature in human kind. In any case, this isn't a lesson about Gene. If you want to learn more, we're sure Wikipedia has a great article written about him... this topic is about Horizons!
Some members of Horizons have been together for 9 years now, going on 10. We have played games together, shared pictures of newborn babies together, sometimes fought with each other; but mostly, we have been friends for what seems longer than we can count. If you are looking for a group of players who love the game, who love Star Trek, and who prefer closer friendships rather than fleeting ones, then this is the fleet for you. If not, well... like we said, no one is perfect, try us out anyway. Who knows, maybe, just maybe, we'll like each other enough to keep you around.
Great! We're glad you had enough stamia to get through the last couple paragraphs. If we lost you, and you're only skipping to this part, well... that just proves you know what you want and how to get it.
Up next for you is to talk with a Recruiting Officer. It's a little chat we have to get to know you, what your interests are (maybe besides STO), and what your primary focus is in Star Trek Online. We evaluate your application and see where you would best fit within the fleet. You'll start out as an Ensign (even if your ingame rank is Admiral) and work your way up through the ranks as needed.
Here are some instructions. Below is a link that says REGISTER. You'll be brought to a screen that asks your age--just be honest. It won't count against you. From there you agree to some rules... We've never read them, and don't expect you to either. Click through, and you're brought to your application screen.
Please fill out in the User Name box whatever your account is with Cryptic. This is NOT your character name. Fill in the following information. In the "How did you hear about us?" box, please put Star Trek Online Applicant.
Great, then you're all set. A recruiter will contact you via e-mail within 24 hours.
